Debby_The_Chocoholic chose to do what she loves and is now fitter than ever!

You already here it in the name, Debby loves eating chocolate! She does it daily and is still able to maintain a fit and healthy lifestyle. After years of using machines while working out, she decided to turn things around and choose to do what she loves. Workouts with bodyweight, more specifically POP Pilates and Yoga. She even got her certification of Pop Pilates Teacher and is currently working for her yoga certification as well. Curious to read more about Debby? Check the interview below:

The Interview:

How old are you?

I’m currently 25 years old.

What do you do?

I’m studying to become a certified yoga instructor. Besides that I’m looking for a job as fulltime receptionist and I’m teaching yoga and Pop Pilates classes.

What’s your favorite sport?

Without any doubt Pop Pilates and Yoga!

How many times a week do you work out?

I’m working out 4 to 5 times a week and I practice yoga daily.

Which (fitness) goals have you reached?

Last year I was finally able to perform my first push-up, that was a wonderful feeling! Besides that, I wanted a fit and stronger body, which I’ve reached quite a bit by now. In the field of yoga, I overcame my fear for handstand and pincha (feathered peacock posture)

What do you eat on a regular day?

For breakfast I eat smoothybowls and oatmeal dishes. Once in a while I make healthy French toasts, delicious! For lunch I make my own salad, usually I add cooked eggs. For dinner I choose a warm meal. I try to keep it as healthy as possible but sometimes I just feel like eating a delicious, greasy burger. There has to be some balance, right? My guilty pleasure is chocolate! I snack on this every single day.

Do you use supplements?

No, I did in the past (mostly protein supplements) but my body didn’t seem very happy with it. My Irritable Bowel Syndrome causes intoleration for these products so I had to stop with it. Besides that, it gave me pimples as well.

How long have you been on your fitjourney?

In 2012 I started with fitness but in 2016 my fitjourney capsized and I quit training with machines. So right now I’m only training with my own bodyweight. Up to now I don’t regret this decision at all.

Why did you start your fitjourney?

My body wasn’t very pretty to look at, I was literally a couch potato. I wanted to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle. This wasn’t without fall and rise ofcourse. Until I decided to do my own thing in 2016, this was the best choice I could have made for myself.

What’s your best tip to get fit?

Find a sport that you like! Don’t do anything against your liking, in the end it will demotivate you and you’ll give up anyway. Work out together! Nothing is as fun as supporting and motivating each other during a workout!

What do you like most about your lifestyle?

The fact that I can enjoy eating and sporting again. I had a hate-love relationship with my body for a long time and I was obsessive with counting calories. That’s why I treated my body bad and brought myself down. Since Pop Pilates and Yoga I learned to love myself and I eat what I like (without counting calories).

Do you have any more goals in the future?

In the field of yoga, I have many goals. There are so many postures that I would love to master but are too grasped at this moment. My motto is “Progress, not perfection!”. In the field of Pop Pilates I want to inspire my students as much as possible and motivate them while they are excelling in my classes.

Who is your biggest inspiration ‘fitwise’?

I have to big inspirations: 1. Cassey Ho, the founder of Blogilates. Her positive vibes and motivational videos changed my life. I’m super happy that I decided to become a Pop Pilates Instructor, the other teachers in the POP-community are all so inspiring! 2. Kinoyoga, she is my biggest yoga inspiration. The postures that she masters are goals for me! Her YouTube videos helped me a lot on my yoga journey as well.
